Questions to Ask When Visiting a Child Care Program
Is the program licensed? Ask to see a copy of the license or certification from the Board of Health and Fire Marshal if it is exempt from licensing.
Is the program nationally accredited?
NAEYC for child care centers
NAFDC for family day care homes
What are the staff qualifications, credentials and experience? What is the annual staff turnover rate?
Do all of the staff have current first aid and CPR training?
What is the teacher to child ratio for each group of children?
What is the maximum group size for each group of children?
What is the daily schedule? How much choice time is there for the children?
What is served for snacks and meals? Ask to see a copy of the current menu.
What is the nap time policy and procedure? Is nap time supervised?
What is the discipline policy?
What field trips do the children take?
How are parents involved in the program?
