The Campus Children's Center (CCC) opened in 1983 as a full-time child care program for children of Indiana University Bloomington faculty, staff and students. CCC serves a total of 48 children, ages two through kindergarten, in 3 classrooms. Located in a newly renovated facility in the old University Elementary School on the east edge of campus, CCC is licensed by the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration and is nationally accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

Schedule

CCC is open from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday, year round. The center is closed on national holidays and for 2 weeks during the winter semester break. CCC is open during spring break and during the summer.

Program Philosophy

The program at Campus Children's Center is child centered and developmentally based. The program is geared toward the development of the whole child and is individualized for the needs of each child and his/her family. Through the use of an individualized, child generated curriculum, children develop high self-esteem, positive social skills, expanded language development and cognitive abilities, enhanced creativity and physical development and a respect for diversity. The classrooms are arranged into learning centers that encourage children to make choices and become self directed learners.

Staffing

The staff at the Campus Children's Center is experienced and professionally trained. The program is administered by a full time director and program assistant. Each of the 3 classrooms is staffed by two co-teachers. All co-teachers possess at least a bachelor’s degree in education or other child related field. In addition to the full time staff, CCC employs part time teacher aides, most of whom are IUB students. The CCC staff are recognized for their professional knowledge and experience and many of them present workshops to parents and other professionals. The center is proud of its low staff turnover rate.

Classrooms

The following 5 classrooms are each staffed by co-teachers with part-time teacher aides supplementing the staffing in the early morning, at naptime and in the late afternoon.

  • Infant classroom: 8 children (1 to 3 ratio)
  • Toddler classroom: 10 children (1 to 5 ratio)
  • Two year old classroom: 10 children (1 to 5 ratio)
  • Preschool classrooms (2): 19 children (1 to 9 ratio)

Meals and Snacks

Children are served nutritious meals and snacks throughout the day. Children arriving before 8:00 am are offered a breakfast of cereal, milk and juice. Snacks are offered at 9:30 am and 2:45 p.m, daily. A hot lunch is prepared by FoodWorks and is transported daily to the Center. The cost of all meals and snacks is included in the weekly fee.

Parent Involvement

Parents are encouraged to participate in the CCC program as much as possible. Daily communication between parents and CCC staff is a high priority. In addition, a minimum of 3 parent-teacher conferences are offered each year. Parents are encouraged to participate in the classroom, serve on the CCC Advisory Committee, accompany the class on field trips, or come to lunch at the center.

Enrollment

CCC enrolls children on a full time basis only. The center maintains a fairly lengthy waiting list so parents are encouraged to contact the center as early as possible. Enrollment is considered on a first-come-first-served basis. Children with siblings already enrolled at CCC are given priority for enrollment. Weekly fees include all meals and snacks.
